DEVELOPING TEACHING STRATEGIES

ACHIEVING GROWTH

This program is designed to support professional development for currently practicing or potential critical language teachers of Chinese, Persian, and Portuguese. Teacher with native proficiency in Chinese, Farsi, and Portuguese who are currently practicing foreign language or content area, or who have a desire to teach their native language in U.S. settings are invited to participate. Participants will complete a workshop focusing on contemporary teaching methods and then gain experience teaching in a summer language camp for K-5 children. As part of the workshop, information about U.S. teaching certification and locating professional teaching opportunities will be provided. Teachers will receive hands on immersion experience in the classroom everyday for two weeks with the same students. Participants will partner with school based professionals to support the learning of the students and connect with local and global communities to support and encourage language learning. Teacher participants will ensure students receive comprehensible input and will provide opportunities for students to acquire the target language in meaningful contexts
